Restore channel posts in Teams

This article will guide you through how to restore or download channel posts in Microsoft Teams using the ActiveProtect Recovery Portal. To begin, launch the Recovery Portal to access the backed-up posts.

Preview post content

Double-click a post to launch the Preview window, where you can view its full content.

Download posts

Posts can be exported in HTML format to your local device. If multiple posts are selected, they will be compressed into a ZIP file. The time required depends on the size of the posts.1

  • Single post: Hover over the target post and click the ⋮ icon > Download.
  • All posts in selected channel: Navigate to the target channel on the left panel. Then, choose the corresponding action from the Download menu in the upper bar.
  • Search results: Use the search bar to filter posts, and then choose to download all or a selected result from the Download menu in the upper bar.

Restore posts

  1. Launch the restoration window using one of the following methods:
    • Single post: Hover over the target post and click the ⋮ icon > Restore.
    • All posts in selected channel: Navigate to the target channel on the left panel. Then, choose the corresponding action from the Restore menu in the upper bar.
    • Search results: Use the search bar to filter posts, and then choose to restore all or a selected result from the Restore menu in the upper bar.
  2. In the pop-up restoration window, specify the following settings:
    • Restore items: Choose whether or not you want the source channel's members and permissions to be carried over.
    • Destination team:
      • Original team and channel: Restore the data to the original location.
      • New team and channel: Create a new team and channel for the restored data.
    • Restore from: If the backup is stored in multiple locations, you can choose the location to restore the data from.
  3. Click Restore to start the restoration process.

Note:

  1. In the following situations, the download task will run in the background, and you can retrieve the file later from Recent Tasks > Download:
    • Selecting more than 5,000 posts
    • Downloading all posts in channels or search results
