Edit generic network settings
Go to the Appliance Console > Control Panel > Network to edit generic network options such as default gateway, DNS server, and proxy settings. Click Apply to save any changes made.
Rename Synology ActiveProtect appliance
To rename your Synology ActiveProtect appliance, enter the new appliance name.
The appliance name is case insensitive and can be in the range of 1 to 15 characters, consisting of letters, numbers, underscores, and minus signs. The first character of the name must be a letter.
Specify the default gateway
Click Edit, then locate the network interface you want to set as the default gateway. Drag and drop the desired network interface to the top of the list.
Specify the DNS server IP address
You can choose to manually configure the IP address of your DNS server. Enter the IP address of your preferred DNS server here. An alternate DNS server IP address can also be entered, providing backup if the preferred DNS server experiences problems.
Advanced Settings
- Reply to ARP request if the target IP address is identical to a local address configured on the incoming interface: Enable this option to reply to ARP requests to ensure that the ARP table is complete.
- Enable multiple gateways: Enable this option to support more than one gateway in the interface.
- First use IPv4 address to resolve domain names: Enable this option to resolve domain names with IPv4 for clients which do not support IPv6.
- Enable IP conflict detection: Enable this option to automatically detect if there is the same IP address in the network.
Note:
- The DNS server and Default gateway fields will be filled in automatically and cannot be changed when all your network interfaces are configured automatically.
Connect via proxy server
To allow the backup appliance to connect via a proxy server, select Connect via a proxy server and enter the Address and Port.
Note:
- Click Advanced Settings to configure HTTP proxy, HTTPS proxy, and authentication information.
- By default, the HTTPS proxy settings are the same as the HTTP proxy.
- Local addresses will bypass proxy server by default.
Enable HTTP/2
You can speed up HTTPS connections by enabling HTTP/2.
Go to Appliance Console > Control Panel > Network > Connectivity and select Enable HTTP/2.
Enable data interface accessibility to management services
By default, the data interface is designed for transmitting backup-related data (e.g., backup, backup copy, restore) and enabling employee access to the recovery portal. All management functions for the sites and backup appliances are inaccessible via the data interface by default, including the following functions:
- Access to the Management Center
- Access to the Appliance Console
- Access to the Out-of-Band Management console
- Establish initial authentication connections to sites when adding backup servers to sites, as well as synchronize events between the management server and backup servers.
To enable all access to management services through access from the data interface, go to Appliance Console > Control Panel > Network > Connectivity and enable the option Allow access to Appliance Console and Management Center via data port.
Customize Appliance Console port
The default HTTPS port for accessing the Appliance Console is 5001. If you wish to change the default port numbers, go to Appliance Console > Control Panel > Network > Connectivity and enter the port number in the Appliance Console Port (HTTPS) field.
