How do I migrate my configuration from a Synology RT2600ac/MR2200ac to an RT6600ax/WRX560?

Purpose

This article explains how to migrate the configuration of a Synology RT2600ac/MR2200ac to an RT6600ax/WRX560.

Environment

  • Synology RT2600ac or Synology MR2200ac with SRM 1.2
  • Synology RT6600ax or Synology WRX560 routers with SRM 1.3.1 or above installed.

Resolution

  1. Update SRM version of the RT2600ac or MR2200ac to the latest version (SRM 1.3.1 or above.) If the RT2600ac or MR2200ac is part of a mesh Wi-Fi system, you only need to update the primary router; additional routers will be automatically updated.1
  2. Update the SRM version of the target router (Synology RT6600ax or WRX560) to the latest version (SRM 1.3.1 or above).
  3. Back up the configuration of the RT2600ac or MR2200ac.
  4. Sign in to the SRM of the RT6600ax/WRX560 and restore the configuration using the backup file created from step 3.

Notes:

  1. Restoring the configuration between SRM versions (e.g., between SRM 1.2 and SRM 1.3) is not supported. To restore the configuration to a Synology Router, the router must be the same version as that of the configuration file used.
  2. If the configuration backup file is created from a Synology Router with SRM 1.3.1 and the target router has SRM 1.3.0, the target router's SRM will be automatically updated to the latest version.
