Does creating new Synology Drive sync tasks overwrite existing files?
Details
Creating a new sync task in Synology Drive does not overwrite existing files. The initial step of any sync task involves merging1 2 the file structures from the Synology Drive server with those on the Synology Drive Client on a PC or the Synology Drive ShareSync on another Synology NAS. This merging process ensures no file loss as no files are overwritten.
Once the initial step is completed, any modifications made to files are synchronized across all connected devices.
Notes:
- This process combines files and folders from both the Synology Drive Server and Synology Drive Client, creating a consistent file structure across both ends (excluding unsupported parts). If an identical file exists on both the server and the client, it will not be duplicated.
- To prevent file conflicts during synchronization, we recommend choosing an empty folder as the destination when configuring a sync task.
