License

At Virtual Machine Manager > License, you can do the following:

  • Add Virtual Machine Manager Pro licenses
  • View Virtual Machine Manager Pro licenses’ status, expiration time, etc
  • Buy or add Virtual DSM licenses
  • Monitor license usage, upgrade period, and activated hosts

To add a Virtual Machine Manager Pro license:

  1. Go to License > Virtual Machine Manager.
  2. Click Add license to start the wizard.
  3. Read the license agreement in detail and click Agree to continue.
  4. Confirm and log in to your Synology Account.
  5. Enter the license number.
  6. If the license has already been activated on another Synology NAS, please confirm that you want to migrate this license to your current Synology NAS.

Note:

  • After migrating a license, you will not be able to use the advanced features of Virtual Machine Manager Pro on the original Synology NAS which the license had been activated on.
  • You can enable a 7-Node trial license for 30 days for each host in the cluster once.

To add a Virtual DSM license:

  1. Go to License > Virtual DSM.
  2. Click Add to start the registration wizard.
  3. Read the license agreement in detail and click Agree to continue.
  4. Confirm and log in to your Synology Account.
  5. Enter the license number.
  6. Confirm the number of licenses.

To buy a Virtual DSM license online:

  1. Go to License > Virtual DSM.
  2. Click Buy to start the wizard.
  3. Confirm and log in to your Synology Account. The Virtual DSM license online purchasing page will be displayed.
  4. Confirm the specifications of license.
  5. Read the license agreement in detail.
  6. Confirm your purchase information.

Note:

  • Each host in the cluster has one valid Virtual DSM license for free.

To deactivate a Virtual DSM license:

  1. Go to License > Virtual DSM.
  2. Select the license to deactivate.
  3. Click Deactivate.

To map a license to Virtual DSM:

  1. Open the license mapping wizard at Virtual Machine > Action > Edit > License or power on an unauthorized Virtual DSM.
  2. Choose to use an existing license or add a new license.
    • Use an existing license:
      1. Select the license you want to use.
      2. If the license is not activated, you will need to select the host on which you want to activate the license.
    • Add a new license:
      1. Read the license agreement in detail and click Agree to continue.
      2. Confirm and log in to your Synology Account.
      3. Enter the license number.
      4. Select the host on which you want to activate the license.

Note:

  • Virtual DSM will enter a 30-day grace period when the mapping between the license and Virtual DSM is abnormal (e.g., when the activated host is disconnected).

To unmap a license from Virtual DSM:

  1. Go to Virtual Machine > Action > Edit > License.
  2. Click unmap.

Note:

  • If you unmap a license, the license status will become abnormal. Please make sure you understand the consequences before performing this operation.
