Log Sending
In Log > Log Sending, you can transmit Surveillance Station logs to a syslog server.
To send logs to a syslog server:
- Tick Send logs to a syslog server.
- In the Server field, enter the IP address or hostname of the syslog server.
- In the Port filed, enter the port numberof the syslog server.
- From the Transfer protocol drop-down menu, select UDP or TCP. Remember to match the protocol of the syslog server.
- From the Log format drop-down menu, select BSD (RFC 3164) or IETF (RFC 5424).
- If you selected TCP, you can tick Enable secure connection (SSL) and click Import certificate to secure the connection.
- Click Apply.
- Click Send test log to test the connection. If the syslog server does not receive the test log, check your settings.
Note:
- The default log-sending port is 514. If you wish to use another port, extra port forwarding rules are required.
- UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is message-based, quick, but may lack security and error correction. TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) ensures safe delivery by using flow control, which checks to see if all packets have been correctly delivered before sending new ones.
- Your Synology NAS can be used as a syslog server. Go to DSM > Package Center and install Log Center.
