General Settings
Media Server allows you to stream and play multimedia files in the photo, music and video shared folders from your Synology Router to DLNA/UPnP DMAs (Digital Media Adapter), such as stereo systems, TV sets or gaming consoles. More indexed folders can be added for sharing at Control Panel > Storage > Media Indexing.
Note:
- To add a folder as an indexed folder, log in to SRM as the administrator, and then go to Control Panel > Storage > Media Indexing > Indexed Folder. For more information, click the Help button at the top-right corner of the window.
- Users can save playlists directly in the music shared folder, and use it to play the selected music. To play music from playlists normally, please make sure the playlists are edited with a relative file path.
- You can play the following multimedia file formats on your Synology Router with DLNA/UPnP enabled DMA, but the actual playback capabilities may vary depending on the DLNA/UPnP client:
- Audio: FLAC, M4A, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, PCM, WAV, WMA, WMA VBR, WMA PRO, WMA Lossless
- Image: BMP, JPG (jpe, jpeg), GIF, ICO, PNG, PSD, TIF (tiff), UFO, RAW (arw, srf, sr2, dcr, k25, kdc, cr2, crw, nef, mrw, ptx, pef, raf, 3fr, erf, mef, mos, orf, rw2, dng, x3f)
- Video: 3GP, 3G2, ASF, AVI, DAT, DivX, DVR-MS, ISO, M2T, M2TS, M4V, MKV, MP4, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, MTS, MOV, QT, SWF, TP, TRP, TS, VOB, WMV, XviD, RV30, RV40, AC3, AMR, WMA3, RMVB
- Playlist: M3U, WPL
- Media Server can only stream using the primary network.
Setting DMA Menu Language
You can choose your DMA menu language from the drop-down menu.
To customize a DMA menu language:
- Click the DMA menu language drop-down menu, and choose a language from the list.
- Click Apply.
Note:
- For users to correctly browse the multimedia files on the server, the codepage and menu language you set above should be identical with those of the DMA.
Changing DMA Menu Style
You can decide how your multimedia files would be organized on the DMA menu by selecting a predefined menu style or customizing your own. The system can save up to three different sets of customized menu style.
To customize a DMA menu style:
- Choose one of the three customized styles, and then click Customize.
- Select Music, Photo, or Video.
- Click Create to create a new menu style. If you have selected Music, there will be a list of templates. You can edit an existing template or create new ones according to your preference.
Adjusting SSDP Advertisement Interval
You can change the time interval that your Synology Router advertises itself on the home network. By advertising itself, DLNA/UPnP devices can detect that the server is running and are able to play multimedia contents streamed from the server.
To adjust the SSDP advertisement interval:
- Enter a value in the text field. The value must be within 5-86400.
- Click Apply.
Recording Diagnostic Log
The log can help determine the cause of the problem when you contact Synology Support for assistance.
To manage DMA communication log:
- Click Diagnose and tick Enable DMA communication log for diagnostic purpose to start recording the log.
- You can download or clear the recorded log by clicking Download or Clear.
- Click OK.
