Photo Station and General Settings
DSM admin (or a user belonging to the administrators group if Photo Station's account system is set as DSM accounts) can go to About Me to edit personal information and Settings > General to manage the basic settings of user accounts, display language, Personal Photo Station service, photo sharing over social networks, etc.
Edit Personal Information
Photo Station administrators can edit their self introduction and contact information on the About Me page.
To edit the About Me page:

Choose Account System
Photo Station administrators can choose to integrate DSM user accounts into Photo Station, or manage independent user accounts.
Note:
- This option is not available for Personal Photo Station.
To choose an account system for Photo Station:
- Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and then go to Settings > General.
- In the User Accounts section, choose either of the following options:
- DSM accounts: This option allows DSM admin to integrate DSM accounts into Photo Station.
- Photo Station accounts: This option allows DSM admin to manage independent accounts for Photo Station.
Manage User Accounts and Groups
Photo Station administrators can create, edit, or delete user accounts. In addition, users can be organized into groups for easier management.
Note:
- Creating or deleting user accounts is not available if Photo Station's account system is set as DSM accounts. You will need to log in to DSM as DSM admin (or a user belonging to the administrators group), and then go to Main Menu > Control Panel > User to manage the user accounts.
To create a user account:
- Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and then go to Settings > User Accounts.
- Click Create User, enter user information and assign privileges.
- According to your preferences, do any of the following:
- Choose whether you want to disable this account. Doing so will deny the user's access until it's enabled again.
- Choose whether to allow this user to modify his/her account information.
- Choose whether you want to set this user as Photo Station’s administrator. If this user is set as admin, he/she will be able to sign in with his/her own account and perform administrative privileges.
To create a user group:
- Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and then go to Settings > Groups.
- Click Create Group, enter the information for the group, edit its members and assign privileges.
To manage users' or groups' privileges to existing albums:
Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and go to Settings > User Accounts or Groups to grant users/groups the right to perform specific tasks on all existing albums at once. Or you can navigate to Albums, browse to an album and click More > Edit Album Properties to modify user/group privileges to that album.
Note:
- With the Manage privilege, users/groups can perform most of the tasks on an album, including editing album information, editing photos, etc. However, album managers will not be able to do the following:
- Delete existing tags.
- Change the permission types of albums.
Change Display Language
You can change Photo Station's display language to be the same as that of Synology NAS or your browser.
To change display language:
Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and then go to Settings > General. Choose an option from the Display language drop-down menu.
Enable Personal Photo Station Service for DSM Users
DSM admin (or a user belonging to the administrators group if Photo Station's account system is set as DSM accounts) can enable Personal Photo Station service to allow all DSM users to have their own Personal Photo Station.
Note:
- Only local users can use Personal Photo Station.
- The user name for Personal Photo Station is case sensitive, but is not for Photo Station.
- Personal Photo Station can also be accessed via the Windows domain or LDAP users. To join a domain or LDAP service, please configure the corresponding settings in Control Panel > Domain/LDAP.
To enable Personal Photo Station service for DSM users:
- Log in to DSM as admin (or a user belonging to the administrators group), go to Main Menu > Control Panel > User> Advanced and tick Enable user home service to enable user home service.
- Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and go to Settings > General. Tick Enable Personal Photo Station service.
- When the Personal Photo Station service is enabled, go back to DSM again, and then choose Options > Photo Station from the Options menu (with a figure icon) at the top-right corner of DSM desktop to enable their Personal Photo Station.
Note:
- We recommend you to start using Synology Moments, a photo management solution specifically designed for personal and home use. Equipped with image recognition technique, Moments intuitively manages all your personal photos captured in daily life and keeps track of all your special moments in detail. Please refer to this package's web page and Help articles for more details, and go to Package Center to install Moments.
Configure Router Ports
When you set up Photo Station's port forwarding rule on your router, if you specify different port numbers for the router port (assigned on your router) and the local port (assigned on your Synology NAS), you will need to enter the router port number here to make sure Photo Station files you shared to Internet services (such as external photo editors or social networks) can be accessed successfully.
First, set up an additional port for Photo Station:
- Go to Control Panel.
- Adjust relevant settings depending on the DSM version in use:
- For DSM 6.0 and above: Go to Application Portal > Reverse Proxy and click Create to set up a reverse proxy rule. In the pop-up window, specify an alternative port for Photo Station in the Source section, and specify its original port (e.g. 80) in the Destination section.
- For DSM 5.2 and below: Go to Web Services > HTTP Service. Select Add additional HTTP port and specify an alternative port for Photo Station.
Then, enable router port configuration:
- Sign in to Photo Station as DSM admin, and then go to Settings > General.
- In the Router Port section, enter the DNS hostname or public IP address of your Synology NAS in the Hostname or static IP field.
- Enter the router port number you specified when you set up Photo Station's port forwarding rule on your router in the HTTP or HTTPS fields.
