Getting Started

To set up a new NAS:

  • Open DS finder and search for your NAS in the device list. Then follow the instructions of installation wizard to install your DiskStation Manager (DSM), create a Synology Account, and set up a QuickConnect ID.
    • Install DSM: DiskStation Manager (DSM) is a web-based operating system designed for every Synology NAS. It aims to help users operate and explore features that the NAS offers.
    • Synology Account: Sign up for a Synology Account to enjoy privileges such as support services, remote access features, and our latest product updates. Additionally, you can manage your licenses and purchase history through your Synology Account.
    • QuickConnect ID: With QuickConnect, you can easily access files on your NAS over the Internet without the hassle of setting up port forwarding rules or other complicated Internet settings. QuickConnect allows you to connect to NAS via a short and customizable address, such as QuickConnect.to/example (QuickConnect.cn/example if in China).

Note:

  • To use QuickConnect, pair it with Synology Account.
  • If you can't modify QuickConnect related settings, sign out first and check whether your mobile device and NAS are connected to the same router. Then, open DS finder, tap Manage existing NAS, and select your NAS from the list of devices. In the Address or QuickConnect ID field, enter the address of your NAS along with your login credentials. After signing in, go to General > QuickConnect to change your QuickConnect settings.
  • During the installation process, the default RAID type is Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) which allows you to easily and quickly allocate your drives' storage space.

To manage existing NAS:

  1. Open DS finder and choose Manage existing NAS on the welcome page.
  2. Enter the following information on the login page:
    • Address or QuickConnect ID: Enter the IP address or QuickConnect ID of your Synology NAS.
    • Account and Password: Enter the login credentials of your DSM account.
  3. Tap Log in.

Note:

  • If your device is not automatically detected by DS finder, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. Make sure your mobile device and NAS are connected to the same router.
    2. Make sure you have followed the instructions in the Product Manual when assembling your NAS.
    3. Tap the + icon at the upper-right corner. Then, manually enter either IP address or QuickConnect ID of your NAS, account, and password.

To secure the connection:

Do any of the following to secure the connection.

  • Turn on HTTPS if you want your connection to be SSL/TLS-encrypted. Before doing so, make sure the HTTPS service is activated at Control Panel > Login Portal > DSM on your Synology NAS.
