File Indexing
Indexing folders enables Universal Search to deliver fast and accurate search results for both folders and their contents. If a folder is not indexed, you cannot search the files within that folder.
Index Folders
- Click Preferences (the cogwheel icon) in the upper-right corner.
- Go to File Indexing and click Indexed Folder List.
- Click Create > Select to either choose an existing folder to index or create a new one.
- To manage indexed folders, select a folder to edit its settings, delete its indexed data, or re-index the folder.
- If you want to search file contents (such as text or metadata), enable the desired file type for indexing. Without it, the searches will be limited to filenames only.
- Available index file types: photo, music, video, and document
Note:
- Before indexing folders, ensure that the hosting volume has at least 100 MB of available space.
- You can select up to 1,000 folders for indexing, but subfolders within selected folders aren't counted.
- If there are conflicting indexing rules between a folder and its subfolders, the system prioritizes the rules for subfolders.
Pause or Resume Indexing
While indexing is in progress, you can click on the Task Manager icon on the DSM taskbar and click the pause/playback button to pause/resume indexing.
Note:
- If indexing is paused, it can only be resumed by clicking the playback button.
