Mail System Migration

This article will guide you through how to migrate your Mail Server configuration and emails to MailPlus Server.

Migrate within a NAS

You can install MailPlus Server on the same NAS running Mail Server and migrate between the two packages locally.

1. Go to Package Center and stop Synology Mail Server.
2. Install and launch Synology MailPlus Server.
3. In the setup wizard, select Create a new mail system by migrating data from previously installed Synology Mail Server.
4. Select This Synology NAS as the source.
   • To migrate all the emails to MailPlus Server, select Migrate settings and all mails.
   • If you don't need the previous emails, select Delete all the mails in the original Synology Mail Server.
5. Confirm the migration and click Next. Once the migration is complete, you can get started with MailPlus Server.

Migrate across two NAS

If you have installed MailPlus Server on a different NAS than the one running Mail Server, follow the steps below to migrate.

In the following sections, the NAS running Mail Server is called the source NAS while the NAS running MailPlus Server is called the destination NAS.

Before you start

• Enable the default admin account on the source NAS, which can be disabled after migration.
• Make sure that user accounts on the source and destination NAS match. If you use local users for Mail Server, back up DSM configurations or manually create matching users on the destination NAS.
• On the source NAS, go to Control Panel > File Services > rsync. Enable the rsync service and make sure it uses the default port 22.

Perform migration

1. Launch Synology MailPlus Server on the destination NAS.
2. In the setup wizard, select Create a new mail system by migrating data from previously installed Synology Mail Server.
3. Select Another Synology NAS as the source and enter the administrative credentials.
   • To migrate all the emails to MailPlus Server, select Migrate settings and all mails.
   • If you don't need the previous emails, select Delete all the mails in the original Synology Mail Server.
4. Confirm the migration and click Next. Once the migration is complete, you can get started with MailPlus Server.
