View or Change Files/Folder's Permissions

With File Station, you can set access privileges to files and subfolders. This feature is especially useful when allowing different groups of users to access different subfolders in a shared folder.

To allow users and groups to access files and subfolders:

  1. Select the files and folders for which you want to set access privileges.
  2. Right-click on one of the files or folders, or go to the Action menu. Select Properties.
  3. Go to the General tab and select an owner from the Owner drop-down menu.
  4. Go to the Permission tab and click Create to open the Permission Editor.
  5. Do any of the following in the Permission Editor window to manage ACL permissions for selected the files and folders:
    1. User or group: Specify the user or group whose permissions you wish to customize.
    2. Inherit from: For view only. View the information here to see if the permission is inherited (from a parent folder) or explicit (shown as None).
    3. Type: Select Allow or Deny to grant or deny permission to the user or group.
    4. Apply to: Select how the permissions will be applied to any combination of the folder itself (This folder), subfolders within it (Child folders), files within it (Child files), or all files and subfolders within this folder (All descendants).
    5. Permission: Manage the user or group's access permissions to the selected files and folders by ticking the desired Administration, Read, and Write permissions checkboxes.
  6. Click Done to save and exit the Permission Editor window.
  7. Click Save to save and exit the Properties window.

Note:

  • If Unknown appears in the permission list, it might be the result of any of the following:
    • The user/group has been deleted.
    • Your Synology NAS has left the domain/LDAP.
    • Your Synology NAS cannot recognize the user/group from other devices accessing this Hybrid Share folder.
  • You are not allowed to edit the access privileges of files and subfolders in the photo shared folder here.
