I received a DDNS disconnection notification. What can I do?

Purpose

This article explains why you are receiving a DDNS disconnection notification and what you can do to troubleshoot the network connection.

Diagnosis

When DDNS > Heartbeat service is enabled, Synology DDNS service will regularly check if the external connection is normal. If your Synology device is disconnected from the Internet, you will receive a disconnection notification. This notification can be sent via:

  • Email
  • SMS
  • Mobile

Notes:

  • Configure the notification service in DSM Control Panel > Notification > Advanced.

Resolution

If you frequently receive DDNS notifications about disconnection and connection restoration notifications, please follow the steps below:

  1. Contact your ISP to check if there is any network stability problem.
  2. Connect the Ethernet cable to another switch/router’s Ethernet port.
  3. Connect the Ethernet cable to another LAN port of the same Synology device.
  4. Change the Ethernet cables in your network.
