How do I enable SMB signing?
Resolution
For DSM 6.2 and earlier:
- Go to Control Panel > Domain/LDAP > Domain, tick Join domain, and click Domain Options.1
- Select Force from the Enable server signing drop-down menu to enable it, or select Disable to disable it, and click Apply.
For DSM 7.0 and above:
- Go to Control Panel > File Services > SMB and click Advanced Settings.
- Select Force from the Enable server signing drop-down menu to enable it, or select Disable to disable it, and click Save.
Notes:
- If you have no domain environment, you can configure SMB signing by temporarily ticking Join domain to access the Domain Options button. You can untick Join domain once the setup is complete.
- Enabling server signing greatly reduces file transfer performance. Refer to this article for more information.
- If you wish to disable server signing, you should disable it on both your Synology NAS and the connected computer. Refer to this article for more information.
