Synology Application Service
Synology Application Service provides a framework to enrich the features and services of Synology packages, including push notifications and profile settings. With Synology Application Service, coherent configurations can be shared across different packages, adding on the value and functionality of your collaboration packages. Please see the following to learn more.
Getting Started
To launch Synology Application Service:
- Go to Package Center.
- Click the All tab to view all available packages, then find Synology Application Service and click Install.
Viewing the Supported Features
Once Synology Application Service is launched, the following features and services will be provided in Chat, Calendar, MailPlus and Office packages. However, configurations and availability for some of the following features may differ slightly in different packages. For more information about the features supported on these packages, please see the Help articles for each package.
Notifications
You can receive push notifications by enabling email, mobile device, and/or browser notifications, through which you will be notified of new messages or alerts even when you are not actively using the packages, making it easier for you to stay on top of your tasks.
Note:
- Browser push notifications are supported on Chrome, Firefox version 46 and above (HTTPS only), and Safari.
- When Firefox will is set to Never remember history, the push notification extension cannot be paired on Firefox.
Profile Settings
After you have updated your personal profile (e.g. profile photo, nickname, email account, personal description, and preferred display language) on a package, the updated profile will be automatically displayed on and applied to the other packages. Therefore, coherence can be shared across different packages, without needing to individually update your profile on each package.
Note:
- User profiles and settings can be backed up via Hyper Backup.
Email Account
Without needing to log in to DSM, you can add and edit email accounts while using the packages. The package users can easily add and edit email accounts, regardless of whether they have access to DSM or not. Therefore, the convenience in sending emails can be increased and cross-departmental communications can be improved.
Note:
- Authentication for Yahoo and QQ SMTP servers require the application password.
App Launcher
The App Launcher in Chat, Calendar, MailPlus and Office allows you to quickly launch packages without navigating to DSM. You can click the App Launcher icon on the user interface of a package to launch the other packages, without the hassle of opening new browser tabs.
Note:
- When using the configurations in Application Portal (go to Control Panel > Application Portal for the setup) to open an application, only the application with configured customized port and customized domain will appear on the App Launcher.
- When opening applications from Main Menu on DSM, all applications will appear on the App Launcher.
