Progress and Status
This page displays the progress or status of the current migration task or the result of the last migration task.
Managing Your Migration Tasks
To pause your migration task:
- Click Pause to pause your migration task.
Note:
- While pausing a task, the destination device needs to push the task back to a restorable state. Thus, it may take a short period for the task to be completely paused.
To resume your migration task:
- Click Resume to resume your migration task.
To cancel your migration task:
- Click Cancel to cancel your migration task.
- A confirmation window will be displayed. Click Yes to confirm.
Note:
- After canceling, the system will delete the current migrating volume or LUN to prevent system error. Thus, it may take a short period for the task to be completely canceled.
- After canceling, the volumes or LUNs which were migrated will not be deleted. They will be kept on the destination device.
To restart the destination device in the System phase:
To complete the migration process, the destination device needs to be restarted to apply the settings, re-sync any new changes, and cut off the connection between the two devices.
- A dialogue will appear when it is time to restart the destination device.
- Before restarting the destination device, choose how to handle the services on the source device:
- Keep all services running. You can stop and transfer them manually at another time. All packages and services on the source device will be available after the migration completes. Choose this option if you would like to configure additional settings (e.g., set up firewall rules), or continue using the source device for a while before switching to the destination device at a later date. Please note that any modifications made to the source device will not be transferred after restarting the destination device.
- Disable all file services and packages. You can transfer them to this device immediately after migration completes. This option will stop all file services and packages on the source device after clicking Restart Now. This helps to prevent any modifications to be made on the source device from this point forward. Choose this option if you would like to replace the source device with the destination device right away.
- Click Restart Now when you are ready to restart the destination device and complete the migration process.
To take over all services to the destination device:
Manual configuration on the destination device is required to take over all services from the source device. Click Details for more information about what additional setup is required. You may also refer to this tutorial for a complete guide to ensuring all services can work properly on the destination.
Note:
- When migrating between Synology NAS with different package architectures, manually repairing packages is required after the migration process is finished. Please go to Package Center on the destination device to repair packages.
- When migrating between two Synology NAS with different DSM versions, some packages' versions on the source device may not be compatible with the destination device's DSM version and will require an update after the migration task is finished. Please go to Package Center on the destination device to update packages.
To check the migration summary:
When the migration task was successful, you can click the Summary button to see a summary of the migration task.
To view the migration log:
You can click the Log button at any time during or after the migration process to view records of operations performed by Migration Assistant. You can also export the log in html or .csv file.
To start a new migration task:
When the migration task was successful or canceled, you will be able to start a new migration.
- Click Run New Task to start a new migration task.
- Follow the instructions provided by the Migration Wizard to complete setting up the migration task. For more information, please refer to the Migration Wizard page.
Troubleshooting
This section explains the issues you may encounter, as well as the ways in which you can troubleshoot each problem to ensure a successful migration.
To troubleshoot a slow migration task:
If services are still running on the source device, Migration Assistant may automatically reduce the migration speed down to 30MB/s, at the lowest, to ensure the quality of service on the source device. Stopping some minor services or scheduled backup or syncing tasks will help increase the migration speed.
To troubleshoot remainder migration settings on the source device:
If the two devices are disconnected during the migration, and you force cancel the migration task on the destination device, some migration settings may remain on the source device. If there are migration settings remaining on the source device, issues such as disallowing it to be paired in another migration task or the ability to change system settings may occur. To solve this issue, go to Control Panel > Task Scheduler on the source device, select Migration Assistant Task Cleaner, and click Run.
