C2 Password Extension Quick Start Guide
Install the C2 Password extension to access your data from anywhere through a web browser. Browser extensions are available for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.
First-time setup
Refer to C2 Password Quick Start Guide to finish first-time set up.
Configure extensions on different browsers
The C2 Password extension is available on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Safari.
For Chrome users
Download the extension for Chrome in Chrome Web Store.
To prevent Chrome from interfering with C2 Password, go to Chrome Settings > Autofill and disable the following settings:
- The Auto Sign-in option at Passwords.
- The Allow sites to check if you have payment methods saved option at Payment methods.
- Import Chrome passwords to C2 Password and clear Chrome's saved passwords and autofill data. For detailed instructions, refer to Export data from Chrome.
- To use C2 Password extension in Chrome incognito mode, go to Extensions > Manage extensions. Click on the extension's Details button and enable Allow in incognito.
For Edge users
Download the extension for Edge in Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
To maximize your experience with C2 Password:
- Import Edge passwords to C2 Password and clear Edge's saved passwords and autofill data. For detailed instructions, refer to Export data from Chrome.
- To use C2 Password extension in Edge InPrivate mode, go to Settings > Extensions. Click on the extension's Details button and enable Allow in InPrivate.
For Firefox users
Download the extension for Firefox in Firefox Browser Add-ons.
To maximize your experience with C2 Password:
- Export logins saved in Firefox passwords and import them to C2 Password. For detailed instructions, refer to Export data from Firefox.
- Remove all logins from Firefox passwords and clear Firefox's autofill data.
- If you want to enable C2 Password in private browsing, go to Extensions & Themes, find the extension, and enable Run in Private Windows.
For Safari users
Download the extension for Safari from the Mac App Store.
To enable the C2 Password extension in Safari:
- Select Safari > Preferences.
- Click Extensions. Tick the checkbox next to C2 Password to enable the extension.
- Click Always Allow on Every Website.
- Go to the Autofill tab.
- Untick the checkboxes next to all of the autofill options.
Create and view items
On the Category tab, click Create to create a new item.
By default, your vault will show all items, sorted alphabetically. You may choose to view items in different categories. To learn more about these different types of items, please see Manage Vault Items.
Search items
To search for an item, enter a keyword in the search field at the top. The system will search in the Display name, URL, and Notes fields and the default display information (e.g., username, card number, etc.).
Add an item to Favorites
- Click an item to show item details.
- Click the heart icon
to add the item to Favorites. The item will show up on the Favorites tab.
- Click the solid heart icon
again to remove the item from Favorites.
Edit an item
- Click an item to show item details.
- Click the pencil icon
to edit item details.
- Click Apply to save changes in the web portal.
Share items
Create a link to share an item. Use Sharing Activity to monitor sharing status and manage your links.
Restore to a previous version
If the most recent version includes attachments or tags, or was added to Favorites, these records will be kept even if you restore to a previous version. Attachments from previous versions cannot be restored.
- Click an item to show item details.
- Click the ⋮ icon > View history.
Autofill login credentials
Login items
You can choose any of the following ways to autofill your login credentials:
- Click on the C2 Password icon in the username or password fields on a login page to show available login items in a drop-down list.1 The items will be listed according to your recent logins on the same website. Click the desired item to autofill.
- Go to the login page. Open the extension pop-up and click the Autofill button next to the desired login item to autofill.
- Open the extension pop-up, click the Open & Fill button next to a desired login item. This will take you to the website where the item should be filled and have it automatically filled.
Payment card items
Click on the C2 Password icon in the card number, cardholder name, CVC, or expiration date field on a payment page to show available payment card items in a drop-down list.1 Select the desired item to autofill it.
Identity related items
Open the extension pop-up and click the Autofill button next to the desired item to autofill it.
The types of identity related items include:
- Contact information
- National ID
- Passport
- Social security number
- Driver's license
Notes:
- You can disable autofill on a page via either of the following methods:
- Right-click on the page and click C2 Password > Don't autofill on this page.
- Next to a field, click the
C2 Password icon > Autofill Settings and select Don't autofill on this page.
Save login items for sites
This option allows you to save or update data for new or unsaved login items. The option is turned ON by default. In addition to usernames and passwords, you can also save extra fields for a login item.
If you don't want C2 Password to offer to save your passwords for a website, click Never.
Add a new item
- The Save in C2 Password pop-up will appear when you enter credentials that haven't been saved to C2 Password before on a website.
- You can change the data in any field of the login item.
- Click Save.
Update an existing item
- A pop-up will appear when you enter credentials on a website that differ from the login data saved in C2 Password for the same website.
- Click Update.
If you don't see the pop-up when you enter new credentials or update old ones, right-click on the page and click Save extra fields.
Notes:
- If you already have an existing item saved for a domain and you enter different credentials for that domain, C2 Password may prompt you to create a new item or update the existing one. To create a new item, select Create a new item from the drop-down list next to Save to. To update the existing item, select the relevant option.
Generate a strong password
You can use Password Generator to generate strong passwords to increase account security. For more information, please see Generate a Strong Password.
Configure advanced settings
You can perform the following operations in Settings:
- Auto-lock: Set an extension idle time frame for extension to be locked. Once it is locked, you must re-enter your C2 Encryption Key to access it again.
- Options: 15 minutes / 30 minutes / 1 hour / 4 hours / On browser restart / Never
- If you set the option to Never, enter your C2 Encryption Key to confirm.
- Lock now: Lock the C2 Password extension now.
- Autofill login credentials: Offer to show login items in drop-down list at a login screen to autofill username and password. This option is ON by default.
- Change language: Select your preferred language.
- Sign out: Sign out from the current Synology Account.
