I received the error message "Windows can't get the network settings from the router" when trying to connect to my Synology Router's wireless network. What should I do?
Symptoms
You received the error message "Windows can’t get the network settings from the router" when trying to connect your Windows device to the wireless network.
Resolution
Use a security key
- We suggest connecting to the network using a security key (password) instead of a device PIN. It is less secure to establish a connection via a device PIN.
- The device PIN is disabled by default in SRM. To use a device PIN, follow the steps below:
- Go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Settings > WPS (SRM 1.3) or Wi-Fi Connect > Wireless > WPS (SRM 1.2).
- Click on Device PIN to expand the section, and check if the PIN code has been activated.
What is the "PIN Code" for on the back of my Synology Router?
On the back of your Synology Router, there is a sticker with an eight-digit PIN Code. This is a required code used during the first-time installation of SRM, and is not used for wireless connections.
