Settings
General
The settings in this tab will be synchronized across all hosts in the cluster.
Host Auto Selection
- When host auto selection is enabled, an optimal host will be selected according to the performance and resources available to power on virtual machines. If you want to change the running host of a virtual machine, please go to Virtual Machine > Action > Move.
Note:
- If the ISO file required or USB devices specified in the virtual machine are not on the selected host, it will not be mounted.
Virtual DSM License Mapping
- On power-on Virtual DSM without license, find and map the available license automatically.
- The priority of license mapping is as follow:
- Free license
- License within upgrade period
- New license (never activated)
- Expired license
Note:
- When you activate brand new inactivated license, the host where the virtual machine's storage is on will have the first priority to be mapped with license. If the Synology account owning this license was not logged in on that host, a random host with correct account will be mapped with the license.
Default Keyboard Layout
- This setting will apply to the settings when creating a new virtual machine.
Host Shutdown Behavior
- You can choose between Ask me everytime, Shut down, and Suspend.
Note:
- If some virtual machines are not able to shutdown in 5 minutes, they would be forced to shutdown.
- When Suspend is chosen, the virtual machine will still be shutdown if it fails to be suspended.
- When Ask me everytime is chosen, scheduled shutdown will fail if there is any running virtual machine.
Cluster Notification
You can enable/disable cluster email notifications to receive notifications when cluster status changes or errors occur.
To enable email notifications:
- Go to Virtual Machine Manager > Settings > Cluster Notification.
- Tick the Enable email notifications checkbox.
- Enter one or more email addresses in the field Recipient’s email address.
Note: Separate different addresses with a semicolon (;). - You can add additional information in the field Subject prefix, which will be added to the subject of each email, helping you to distinguish and filter the notifications.
- The number of Available SMTP Servers represents the number of hosts enabled to send DSM email notifications in the cluster. To enable DSM email notifications, log into individual hosts in the cluster, and go to Control Panel > Notification > Email.
- Click SMTP Server List to view the list of all usable hosts in the cluster and the SMTP settings.
- Click Apply to save the settings.
Note:
- The settings cluster notification is different from that of DSM notification. A cluster notification will be sent only when cluster status changes or errors occur.
- Duplicated notifications: Generally, cluster notifications are sent from one of the running SMTP servers. If there are more than one SMTP server configured, you might get duplicated notifications under certain circumstances like unstable cluster network.
- At least 1 SMTP server is needed for sending email notifications: A notification event will fail if no SMTP server is configured. To ensure the notifications will be sent, it is recommended that you configure more than one SMTP server for this function in the event of unstable cluster network.
High Availability
You can configure high vailability settings which will be synchronized across all hosts in the cluster.
To set failure detection interval:
- Go toVirtual Machine Manager > Settings > High Availability.
- Set Failure detection interval by selecting a number from the drop-down list. If the failure lasts longer than the set interval, the virtual machine will be automatically switched over to the passive server.
To set events to be monitored:
- Go to Virtual Machine Manager > Settings > High Availability to set the events which you would like to monitor. Virtual Machine Manager will detect the events you have set and automatically switch the virtual machine to the passive server if any of them happens.
