How can I access files on the BeeStation directly from my computer?

Purpose

With BeeStation for desktop, you can directly access files on BeeStation from your computer via File Explorer or Finder. This article will explain how to set up the BeeFiles folder using BeeStation for desktop.

Resolution

1. Install BeeStation for desktop

To begin, install BeeStation for desktop on your computer. Then, sign in to the Synology Account you used for your BeeStation.

2. Enable the BeeFiles folder

The initial setup of BeeStation for desktop will guide you through the process of setting up the BeeFiles folder. If you skipped it during the initial setup, follow these steps:

  1. Click the BeeStation for desktop icon in the system tray.
  2. Select Settings to open BeeStation for desktop.
  3. Select BeeFiles from the left panel.
  4. Click Add Now.
  5. Select a location. (Windows only)

3. Select specific folders to appear (Windows only)

If you are using Windows, you can select specific folders within BeeFiles to appear on your computer. To do this:

  1. Select BeeFiles from the left panel.
  2. Click Select Folders.
  3. Click the arrow to show all folders within BeeFiles and select the ones to appear on your computer.

4. Interpret the sync status

Files in BeeFiles are primarily stored in BeeStation and won't occupy space on your computer until you open, modify, or save a copy. Refer to the following icons for sync status.

Your file or folder is available online and does not consume storage space. To save a copy on your computer:

  • Simply open the file.
  • Right-click on the file, select BeeStation > Always keep on this computer.

Your file or folder has been downloaded to your computer for offline viewing. Right-click on the item and select BeeStation > Free up space to manually delete the saved file or folder and release storage.
If your computer is low on storage, these saved file or folder will be automatically deleted to free up storage, but the files or folders will still be accessible online with a cloud icon.

The file has been permanently saved to your computer and can be viewed offline. When your computer is low on storage capacity, these saved files will not be automatically deleted to free up storage.
