System

The System application displays the basic system information and allows you to configure general settings. You can check the hardware specifications and storage usage, manage network and time settings, update Surveillance Station, enable recording encryption, and apply privacy watermarks.

Information

The Information page displays the following information:

  • Basic Information: Lists the serial number and server model, CPU information, memory and system usage, and the server's thermal status.
  • Thermal status (available on certain models only):
    • Green: The temperature is normal.
    • Orange: The temperature is too high. The server might shut down due to overheating.
  • Version Information: Lists the DSM, Surveillance Station, and Device Pack versions.
  • Time: Lists the server address and time zone.
  • External Devices: Lists the connected USB devices.

Storage

The Storage page provides an overview of your volume and drive usage. Possible drive statuses include:

  • No Disk Installed: No drive installed in the corresponding drive slot.
  • Not Initialized: The system partition and volume have not been created.
  • Normal: The system partition and volume are available.
  • Initialized: The system partition is ready, but no volume has been created.
  • System Partition Failed: The system partition is unavailable.
  • Crashed: Cannot access the volume. A drive replacement is recommended.

Note:

  • For the system to function normally, there must be at least one drive in Normal or Initialized status.

Network

The Network page displays information including the IP address, subnet mask, IPv6 address, and network status of your networks. You can click Edit to manually configure the IPv4, IPv6, and 802.1X settings, or click Manage to change the service order.

Time

The Time page displays your current time and settings. You can select the time zone, set the time manually, or choose to synchronize with the NTP server.

System Update

The System Update page displays the current Surveillance Station version and update status. You can tick Auto-update for the system to update automatically when new versions are available, or click Download to update immediately.

Security

Recording encryption protects videos from security breaches and data leakage. Users will need to enter the encryption key to view recordings in Monitor Center and other players.

To configure recording encryption:

Use the following options to configure recording encryption.

  • Enable recording encryption:
    • Tick the checkbox to set an encryption key. A key file will be downloaded automatically. It can be uploaded to decrypt files, saving you the effort of manual entry.
    • To disable the function, untick the checkbox.
  • Export Key: Click the button and enter the current key to download the key file.
  • Change Key: Click the button and enter the current key to set a new key.
  • Force remove: The encryption key can be force-removed if you lost it. Click Change Key, find force remove from the note below, and verify your DSM account. Note that the already encrypted recordings will be deleted permanently.

Note:

  • The system will only encrypt videos recorded after the function is enabled, not the previous recordings.
  • Once you encrypt recordings, they can no longer be accessed via SMB or File Station. You must view or download them from Surveillance Station.
  • In CMS environments, the encrypted recordings on recording servers can be accessed by the host server.

To add watermarks:

Text watermarks can be added to video players to enhance the protection of important footage.

  1. Tick Overlay watermarks in video players.
  2. Click Edit.
    • Text: Enter your text and set the size and color.
    • Repeat pattern: Tick the checkbox if you wish to repeat the watermark on-screen.
    • Position: Select a location to display your watermark from the drop-down menu.
    • Opacity: Drag the percentage bar to set the opacity.
  3. Save the settings.

Note:

  • Watermarks cannot be downloaded along with recordings.
