Monitor
At Network Center > Traffic Control > Monitor, you can check the real-time upload/download Internet traffic of each connected device or application on your Synology Router with a network traffic monitor. Historical traffic statistics are also displayed under this tab.
Contents
- Monitor real-time network traffic
- Obtain historical network traffic statistics
- Measure the network traffic of applications
1. Monitor real-time network traffic
The upload/download Internet traffic of all connected devices will be shown in real-time traffic graphs.
Note:
- For real-time network traffic, the maximum number of concurrently connected devices allowed in traffic graphs is 256. Additional devices will not be displayed if you exceed the maximum limit.
- Synology Router monitors Internet traffic only. Monitoring traffic of local area network is not supported.
2. Obtain historical network traffic statistics
The network traffic monitor also allows you to keep historical statistics of your Internet traffic. To do so, click Settings and tick Record traffic statistics. Choose how long the statistics will be kept. You can then return to the monitor, and view the historical information about your upload and download traffic by selecting a time range from the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner.
Note:
- For historical network traffic, the maximum number of connected devices allowed in traffic graphs is 512. Additional devices will not be displayed if you exceed the maximum limit.
3. Measure the network traffic of applications
To measure the Internet traffic of applications, click Settings and tick Record traffic statistics > Enable application detection.
Note:
- Synology Router uses DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) engine to monitor network traffic. The accuracy would be around 80 - 90%, as it could be affected by the following factors:
- The constantly changing nature of network environment
- The network infrastructure through which packets pass
- The inevitable error of analyzing packets in real-time
- Owing to UDP (User Datagram Protocol) limitations, the traffic statistics of devices using UDP might not be accurate at times.
