Resolution
Ready
DSM is installed and ready to use. Double-click on your Synology device to access it.
Not installed
There may be several reasons this status is shown.
- Drives are detected, but DSM has not been installed: Double-click on the Synology device to start DSM installation.
- Drives are detected, and DSM was already installed: If you have been using the drives for some time, but Synology Assistant or Web Assistant suddenly displays Not installed, this indicates that your device cannot recognize the drives. Please refer to this article, or use the tools listed in this article to check the health of your drives on a computer.
- No drive detected: Please make sure you have properly inserted healthy drives into your device. If so, refer to this article, or use the tools listed in this article to check the health of your drives on a computer.
- "Erase All Data" has been clicked: If you clicked the Erase All Data button in DSM Control Panel > Update & Restore > System Reset > Factory Reset, you will see the Not installed status after the Synology device restarts.
Configuration lost
This status is usually the result of a Mode 2 Reset. You may double-click on your device and re-install DSM to get a fresh system without impacting the data in the volume. If you did not press the RESET button, refer to this article.
Migratable or Recoverable
The DSM version recorded on the motherboard does not match the DSM version installed on the drives. Migratable often occurs after drive migration and Recoverable often occurs after RMA (return merchandise authorization) service. Follow the setup wizard to finish the migration or recovery process. This process will not impact the data in the volume. Double-click on your device and proceed with the installation process.
Connection failed (Synology Assistant only)
There is an error with the network configuration. To configure the network settings, double-click on your device.1 Alternatively, you may reset the network settings by pressing the RESET button on the Synology device.2
Notes:
- The Setup function on Synology Assistant is only available when there is connection problem. To configure the IP, go to DSM Control Panel > Network.
