Service

This page allows you to monitor certain services. If a monitored service fails on the active server, the system will fail over to the standby, passive server (as long as the passive server is operating normally).

To monitor a service:

  1. Find the service that you wish to monitor. Tick the checkbox next to it.
  2. Click Apply to save settings.

Supported Services

Services that can be monitored are as follows: Windows File Service, iSCSI Target, FTP, Mac File Service, NFS Service.

Quorum Server

Quorum servers can help reduce the possibility of split-brain errors. In split-brain settings, you can assign another server as the quorum server, as long as it constantly connects to both the active and passive servers. For example, a gateway server or DNS server is a suitable choice for the quorum server because it can connect to both the active and passive servers. Please note that the quorum server is to provide Ping services only, and no applications are required to be installed. Below are circumstances that will follow when the quorum server is enabled:

  • If the passive server cannot connect to both the active and quorum servers, failover will not be performed in order to prevent split-brain errors.
  • If the active server cannot connect to the quorum server while the passive server can, switchover will be triggered in order to ensure better availability.
