Yes, after you enable photo backup, you can view photos that are not backed up under the Photos tab in the Synology Photos mobile app. Go to the More tab to set up the automatic photo backup.
Please note that you need full complete Shared Space permissions to browse photos in Timeline View. You may contact your administrator for permission.
Open the photo and click the
Information icon at the bottom. You will see its backup status. Refer to this article for the definitions of icons.
Once files are uploaded, the Free up Space option will appear on the backup settings page. Enable the function to delete the files at once.
No, your copies on Synology NAS will not be removed when you delete their original files directly from your phone’s built-in app.
However, if you delete the copies in the Synology Photos mobile app, their original files will be deleted locally if your deletion settings is set to Delete from NAS and phone.
If you delete copies from Synology NAS (e.g., File Station) or through the web portal or SMB, their original files will still exist on your phone. The Synology Photos mobile app will track these changes and notify you of these difference. You can sync the changes to delete local items, or ignore those changes.
You will see two options of backup rules when you re-enable Photo Backup:
- Back up new photos only: Back up photos and videos taken from now on. Changes made to previous items will also be backed up as new files.
- Scan and back up all photos: Items on your phone will be backed up again if their copies on Synology NAS are renamed, deleted, or moved to another Space.
If you want to scan all photos and videos on your phone to ensure all items are backed up to Synology NAS, please sign out of this app and sign in again, then select this option.
If you have enabled the recycle bin feature on DSM, you can restore files from the /home/#recycle folder for Personal Space or the /photo/#recycle folder for Shared Space.
Alternatively, you can check your iOS device's trash bin for local copies, and recover and re-upload the deleted files to Synology Photos. For Android devices, restoring local copies is available with the Synology Photos mobile app 2.0.2 or later versions. Visit your phone's recycle bin or show hidden files via its built-in file manager (e.g., Samsung My Files) to find the deleted files.
However, if you haven't enabled the recycle bin feature on DSM, you won't be able to restore a deleted file that was only stored on Synology NAS.
If a photo was edited before backup, only the latest edited version will be backed up to Synology Photos. However, if you edit a backed-up photo on your mobile device, Synology Photos will save the edited version as a new file.
