How do I set up my Synology Router?
Purpose
This article will guide you through the steps of setting up Synology Router using a computer or the DS router mobile app.
Environment
- Synology Router
- Computer or mobile device with DS router (Android/iOS) installed
- Ethernet cable (optional for computer connections)
Resolution
Please follow the steps A to D:
-
Install and place your Synology Router
- Install the antennas (applicable to RT2600ac): Attach the antennas to the connectors on the Synology Router. Turn each one clockwise until it is finger-tight. Put all antennas to an upright position.
-
Place the Synology Router in a suitable location:
- Pick a central and open location in the environment you wish to cover with Wi-Fi. An elevated position is preferred over a floor-level position.
- Avoid surrounding the Synology Router with metal objects or electronics that can cause interference, such as Bluetooth devices, microwaves, or cordless phones.
- Concrete or brick walls are known to absorb Wi-Fi signals much more than wood or drywall. (To extend the coverage of your Wi-Fi signal you can set up additional Wi-Fi points.)
-
Plug in and power on the router: In most cases, you will connect the Synology Router to your existing modem. Follow the steps below to avoid an IP conflict that prevents you from connecting to the Synology Router afterward.
- Power off the modem. If you are replacing an old router with the Synology Router, power off the old router and unplug its Ethernet cable from the modem.
- Connect the modem to the WAN port of the Synology Router with an Ethernet cable.
- Power on the modem and wait a few minutes for it to start up.
- Plug your Synology Router into an electrical outlet and power it on. Wait until the STATUS LED indicators or the front indicator turns on. You can check the following table for the meaning of the STATUS LED during the boot up process of your router.
