Log Receiving

Your Synology Router can act as a syslog server in order to receive logs from client device over the network. Two formats are supported for receiving logs -- BSD (RFC 3164) IETF (RFC 5424). All received logs are stored in the log database.

Before you start:

Go to Log Center > Storage Settings and choose a location to store and archive logs.

To set up logs receiving:

  1. Go to Log Center > Log Receiving.
  2. Find the section regarding BSD or IETF format settings according to your needs.
  3. Tick the box Receive logs from other devices.
  4. Select a transfer protocol -- TCP or UDP.
  5. Specify a server port number for receiving logs. The default port number is 514.
  6. If you want to secure log transmission, tick the box Transfer logs securely with SSL. This option is available only when TCP protocol is selected.
  7. Click Apply to save settings.

Exporting Certificate

If you enabled the Transfer logs securely with SSL option, you can click the Export certificate button to export the certificate for sending logs to the Synology Router. This certificate is used to authenticate other devices are allowed to send logs to the Synology Router.
