Cluster

At Virtual Machine Manager > Cluster, you can do the following:

  • Add new servers or import existing hosts into the cluster
  • Manage hosts in the cluster
  • Monitor the status and usage of virtual machines as well as the storage and network resources on each host
  • Connect to the hosts
  • Evacuate all virtual machines that have enabled High Availability on the host

To add servers into the cluster:

  1. Click Add.
  2. If there is only one host in the cluster, choose an interface that will be used for the virtualization cluster communication.
  3. Select one of the following methods to add hosts:
    • Add hosts in local area network:
      • Choose hosts from the list.
      • Enter the administrator's login credentials of the selected servers for authentication.
    • Add a host via its IP address:
      • Enter the IP address, DSM https management port, and administrator's login credentials of the selected server for authentication.
  4. Select a volume for each server that hasn’t installed the Virtual Machine Manager package to install package.
  5. Select the volumes to store the virtual machines.
  6. Click Apply to save the settings, and the selected servers will be added to the cluster.

Note:

  • The requirements for hosts are as follows:
    • The host must be a supported model with 4 GB or more RAM to run virtual machines; otherwise, it can only provide storage resources for its virtual machines.
    • The interface for the virtualization cluster communication must have a static IP address.
    • Hosts with VLAN, VPN, or bridged network interfaces are not supported.
  • It is recommended that two interfaces used for the virtualization cluster communication and virtual machine network be independent.
  • After creating a cluster with several hosts, you cannot change the cluster network interface or the IP of the cluster network interface, but you can create a bonding interface with the cluster network interface.
  • If you want to choose another cluster network interface or to modify its IP address, please remove the host and import it again after changing the cluster network interface configurations.
  • If you have selected the Synchronize with NTP server option for a host in the cluster, make sure the NTP Server address on every host in the cluster is the same.

To delete a host from the cluster:

  1. Select the host you want to delete.
  2. Click Action > Remove.
  3. You can choose to keep the host and its virtual machines running or to keep only the data on the virtual machines.

Note:

  • If there is only one host remaining in the cluster, the Remove button will be changed to Remove the cluster. When you delete the host, the cluster will be removed as well.
  • If there are virtual machines running on the hosts you want to delete, the virtual machines and their data will not be affected after the deletion.

To select a volume for the suspended virtual machine on a host:

  1. Select the host where your virtual machine is running on.
  2. Click Action > Edit.
  3. Choose Storage for suspended VM.

Note:

  • The memory state of suspended virtual machines will be stored on Storage for suspended VM.
  • Storage for suspended VM can only be modified if there is no suspended virtual machine on the host.

To reserve Host CPU resource:

  1. Select the host whose CPU resource you want to reserve.
  2. Click Action > Edit.
  3. Choose the number of reserved CPU threads.

Note:

  • You cannot reserve all the CPU threads because running virtual machines requires CPU threads as well.

To analyze network of a host:

  1. Select the host whose network you want to analyze.
  2. Click Action > Analyze network.

Network Analysis

The Network Analysis is generated by analyzing the firewall settings, ARP status and network protocol ports of critical internal services. When a host has an Abnormal network, you can resolve the issues based on the network analysis report.

To connect to a host in the cluster:

  1. Select the desired host.
  2. Click Connect, and choose the IP address you want to connect to.

Note:

  • If you fail to connect to the host in your browser, please check the connection between the host and your computer.

To evacuate all HA-enabled virtual machines on the host:

  1. Click Action > Evacuate the HA-enabled Virtual Machine.
