DSM mobile
DSM mobile allows DSM admin (or a user belonging to the administrators group) to manage DSM settings and check DSM information with an iOS® (iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®) or Android® device. This DSM mobile Help provides you with the following topics and resources to help you get started.
Note:
Currently supported mobile devices and browsers:
- Mobile devices: iPhone, iPad and iPod running iOS 10 or onward; devices running Android 6.0 or onward
- Browsers: Chrome, Safari
Login and Logout
After you connect to DSM with the web browser on your iOS or Android device, you will see the login screen where you can enter your DSM account information.
To log in to DSM mobile:
Enter your DSM user credentials and tap Login. If you want to save your login information and log in automatically next time, turn on the Remember me switch before logging in.
To log out of DSM mobile:
- Tap the option button at the top-right corner of the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet).
- Tap Settings, and tap Logout.
Manage DSM Users
Tap User & Group on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to see the user list.
To create a user:
- Tap +, and then enter the user name, and password, and email address of the new user.
- Enable Send Notification to send a notification mail to the user's email address when his or her DSM user accounts is created.
Note: Before sending notification, make sure the notification settings have been completed on your Synology NAS. Log in to the desktop edition of DSM with your computer's web browser, and go to Main Menu > Control Panel > Notification > Email to modify the settings. - Tap Done to confirm, or tap the left arrow to cancel.
To quickly find a user:
Enter the user's name in the search field.
To modify a user's information:
- Tap the name of the user and do any of the following:
- Modify the user's name or password in the Name or Password field.
- Turn on Disable to disable the user. You can choose to enable the user at a later time without losing his or her settings.
- Turn on Administrator to add the user to the admin group. Any user belonging to the admin group will be granted administrative privilege to modify DSM settings with DSM mobile or their computer's web browser.
- Under Privileges, do any of the following and then tap Back:
- Tap Shared Folder and tap the name of a shared folder to modify the user's access privilege: Read/Write: The user can make changes to the files and subfolders in the shared folder; Read only: The user can access the files and subfolders in the shared folder, but cannot make changes to them; No access: The user cannot access the files and subfolders in the shared folder.
Note: If privilege conflicts occur, the privilege priority will be: No access > Read/Write > Read only. - Tap Application to modify the user's access privilege to DSM applications.
- Tap Shared Folder and tap the name of a shared folder to modify the user's access privilege: Read/Write: The user can make changes to the files and subfolders in the shared folder; Read only: The user can access the files and subfolders in the shared folder, but cannot make changes to them; No access: The user cannot access the files and subfolders in the shared folder.
- Tap Done to confirm, or tap the left arrow to cancel.
Manage Shared Folders
Tap Shared Folder on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to see the list of shared folders on your Synology NAS.
To create a shared folder:
- Tap +, and then enter the name of the new folder.
- Tap Done to confirm, or tap the left arrow to cancel.
To modify a shared folder:
Tap the name of the shared folder and do any of the following:
- Modify the name of the shared folder in the Name field.
- Tap User Permissions and tap a user to modify his or her access privilege to the shared folder: Read/Write: The user can make changes to the files and subfolders in the shared folder; Read only: The user can access the files and subfolders in the shared folder, but cannot make changes to them; No access: The user cannot access the files and subfolders in the shared folder.
Note: If privilege conflicts occur, the privilege priority will be: No access > Read/Write > Read only. - You can also tap Group Permissions to configure privileges for groups.
Note: Group permissions have higher priority than user permissions.
Enable Services
Tap Service on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to enable or disable Synology NAS services.
To manage Synology NAS's LAN services:
- Enable or disable any of the following:
- AFP allows your Synology NAS to become a Mac file server within LAN.
- Bonjour Printer Broadcast allows Mac clients to print to USB printer(s) connected to your Synology NAS.
- NFS Service allows Linux client within LAN to access Synology NAS data.
- SMB allows Windows, Mac, and Linux clients with SMB/CIFS support to access data stored on your Synology NAS within LAN.
- SSH/Telnet allows your Synology NAS to support Telnet and SSH command-line interface services.
To manage Synology NAS's Internet Services:
- Enable or disable any of the following:
- FTP/FTPS enables your Synology NAS to become a FTP server.
- NTP Service allows your Synology NAS to become a network time server to synchronize time between different network devices and the Synology NAS over network.
- rsync allows you to back up data via rsync from a Synology NAS or rsync-compatible clients to your Synology NAS.
- SFTP offers secure file transfer to DSM users without the need of passwords, and reduces the leakage risk of user credentials.

Monitor System Resources
Tap Resource Monitor on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to monitor CPU and memory usage of Synology NAS.
View System Info
Tap System Info on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to obtain a status overview of your Synology NAS.
To view your Synology NAS system info:
- Do any of the following:
- Tap General to view the basic information about your Synology NAS, including serial number, model name, the amount of physical memory, DSM version, as well as time information and thermal status.
- Tap Network to view your Synology NAS network configuration and the status for each network interface.
- Tap Storage to view volume usage of Synology NAS.
- Tap the Refresh button at the top-right corner to keep the system information up-to-date.
Firmware
Tap Firmware to view and update your DSM version.
To configure DSM upgrade settings:
- Tap DSM Upgrade.
- Choose either option of the following:
- Important updates only
- Newest DSM and all updates
- Tap Done.
To download available updates:
- Check your DSM version in Status.
- If your DSM version is not up-to-date, tap Download button which will appear beneath Status section to upgrade your DSM.
Manage IP Blocking
Tap IP Blocking on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to prevent unauthorized login.
To manage IP blocking:
- Tap the configuration button at the upper right corner.
- Turn on Enable auto block to enable IP Blocking.
- Enter a number for Login attempts and Within (minutes) to block an IP address after the specified number of failed login attempts within the specified number of minutes.
- You can turn on Enable block expiration, and specify Unblock after (days) to unblock an IP address after the specified number of days. If you enter "0" here, Blocked IP address will remain blocked indefinitely until you remove it from the block list.
- Tap Done.
To add IP addresses to allow/block list:
- If you want to add the allow/block IP to the list, tap the add button at the upper right corner, and tab Allow List or Block List.
- After entering the IP address, tap Done.
Manage Package Center
Synology has integrated third party or Synology-designed applications into packages that can be installed and enabled easily on Synology NAS.
To manage Package Center:
Tap Package Center on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to view package information, run or stop packages, or update to the latest versions.
To run or stop installed packages:
Tap the switch beside a package to run or stop it.
To view packages:
Tap a package to view its information.
To update packages:
- Tap the Update tab to view currently available update versions.
- Tap the button on the right side of a package to update to the latest version.
View Logs or Current Connections
Tap Log on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet) to monitor current connections or view the logs of Synology NAS services.
To monitor current connections:
- Tap Latest [number] logs in the Overview section to view the list of users who are lately accessing Synology NAS services.
To see the log records of specific service:
- Tap any item in the Event Logs or File Transfer Logs section to see the list of relevant logs.
Launch Mobile Apps
DSM mobile provides a convenient place for you to launch Synology mobile apps installed on your iOS or Android device.
To launch Synology mobile apps with DSM mobile:
Tap any of the following apps in the lower section of the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet):
- DS audio
- DS cam
- DS cloud
- DS get
- DS file
- DS note
- DS photo
- DS video
- Chat
- MailPlus

Set Synology NAS in Action
(Restart, Shut down, or Beep)
DSM mobile allows you to restart or shut down your Synology NAS with your iOS or Android device. Moreover, when there are several Synology NASs near you, you can quickly identify your Synology NAS by requesting it to play beep sounds.
To set your Synology NAS in action:
- Tap the option button at the top-right corner of the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet).
- Do any of the following:
- Tap Restart and then tap Yes to restart your Synology NAS.
- Tap Shutdown and then tap Yes to shut down your Synology NAS.
- Tap Find me to request Synology NAS to play a beeping sound. Tap OK to stop beeping.
Switch to the Desktop Mode of DSM
Tap the settings icon and select Desktop Mode to switch to the desktop mode of DSM.
Utilize Storage Manager
Storage Manager allows you to quickily view the usage and health status of system volumes and drives.
To view volume information:
- Tap Storage Manager on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet).
- Tap the Volume tab.
- Tap a volume on the list to view its detailed information.
To view drive information:
- Tap Storage Manager on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet).
- Tap the HDD/SDD tab.
- Tap a drive on the list to view its health and S.M.A.R.T. information.
To start or stop a S.M.A.R.T. test:
- Tap Storage Manager on the home page (iPhone/iPod touch or Android phone) or the left panel (iPad or Android tablet).
- Tap the HDD/SDD tab.
- Tap a drive on the list to view its information page.
- Tap S.M.A.R.T. Test to start a S.M.A.R.T. test or Stop to stop it.
