IPTV & VoIP

You can set up IPTV and VoIP at Network Center > Local Network > IPTV & VoIP, connecting your STB (set-top box) or VoIP phone to your Synology Router and entering the required VID (VLAN ID or VLAN tag) designated by your ISP (Internet service provider).

Enable IPTV/VoIP services

  1. Go to Network Center > Local Network > IPTV & VoIP.
  2. Tick Enable IPTV/VoIP.
  3. Select the Mode that best suits your needs:
    • IPTV/VoIP profile: In this mode, your Synology Router displays pre-collected information and settings provided by your ISP. Specify your ISP from the ISP Profile drop-down menu and connect your IPTV/VoIP device to the correct LAN port on your router.
    • IPTV STB port: If your ISP has not specified a VID for IPTV/VoIP services, select this mode and connect your IPTV/VoIP devices via Port 3 and Port 4. If these ports are set to Disabled, they become Internet ports.
    • Manual: If you cannot find your ISP under the IPTV/VoIP profile mode, switch to this mode. ISPs define VIDs and priorities to determine service types (e.g., Internet or IPTV). Please contact your ISP and ask for the information about VID, Priority, and Tagging.1 2

Note:

  1. Ports that are not required can be left blank with the priority set to 0 and they'll become Internet ports.
  2. To specify multiple VIDs, use a comma (,) to separate different VIDs, e.g., 21,22.
  3. When the Tagging option is configured as Untagged, only one VID can be entered.
  4. Some ISPs require network devices to have VIDs for Internet connection. If you need to configure a VID on your Synology Router to get Internet access, please refer to this article.

Configure IGMP settings

IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) is a network layer protocol used to keep records of multicast group memberships. It allows local networks to direct multicast data only to devices in the multicast group. There are two IGMP options available for IPTV/VoIP services:

  • Enable IGMP proxy: Enable this option to allow your Synology Router to forward multicast packets based on multicast group memberships.
  • Enable IGMP snooping: This option allows your Synology Router to snoop on IGMP messages and thus prevent network floods.
    • IGMP membership timeout: Specify how long your Synology Router waits for IGMP queries before removing a multicast group from its cache table.
