1. Improve password security
It’s important to have a strong password to protect your Synology Account from security attacks and prevent important information from being compromised.
Below are instructions to change your password or create a password if you are using a different email provider to access your Synology Account.
Change password
If you would like to change your password for a stronger password, follow the steps below.
- Click Security > Change Password.

- Enter your current password.
- Enter your new password and enter it again to confirm.
- Click Next1, and then Finish.2
- Select Sign Out of All Devices if you would like to remove access to your Synology Account from all devices (such as NAS, router, etc.). Sign in to your Synology account on those devices again with your new password to use them.

Create Password
If you’re using a Google or Apple account to create your Synology Account, we recommend creating a password for your Synology Account. Some Synology services, such as 2-Factor Authentication, requires you to enter a password to use them. Below are instructions on creating a password for your Synology Account.3
- Click Security > Create Password.

- An email will be sent to you with a 6-digit code. Enter the 6-digit code to verify it’s you.
- If you did not receive the verification code, click Resend.
- Enter your new password.
- Enter your password again to confirm, and click Create a password when you’re finished.
2. Protect your account with a phone prompt
Instead of using your password to sign in to your account, you can tap the approve button on your phone through the Synology Secure SignIn app (available for iOS and Android).4
Turn on “Sign in with your phone”
- Go to Security > Advanced Sign-In Options > “Sign in with your phone” > Set Up Now.

- Enter your password to verify your identity.
- Install the Synology Secure SignIn app by scanning the QR code either on the iPhone or Android. Click Next.
- Open the Synology Secure SignIn app to scan the QR code to pair your device, then click Next.
- “Sign in with your phone” has been turned on. Select Finish.5
Turn off “Sign in with your phone”
- Click Action > Turn Off 2-Factor Authentication.

- Enter your password to verify it’s you and click Next.
- Click Turn Off.

- Use your password the next time you sign in to your Synology Account.
Sign in with “Sign in with your phone”
- Go to Synology Account.
- Enter your email and click Next.
- Open the Synology Secure SignIn app and tap Approve displayed on the screen.
- If you didn’t receive the notification, click Resend.

- You are now signed in to your Synology Account.
3. Protect your account with 2-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Synology Account offers 2FA to add an extra layer of security to your account. You’ll be able to sign in to your account in two steps using your password and another device to verify your identity. Choose between “Sign in with your phone” (Approve Sign-In) or OTP (One-Time Passcode). You can also set up both to secure your account.
Turn on 2FA
- Go to 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) > Set Up Now.

- Choose the method you prefer to set up as the second factor:
- “Sign In With Your Phone”
- Verification Code (OTP)

- Follow the instructions to complete the 2FA.
Turn off 2FA
- Click on the dropdown menu and select Turn off 2-Factor Authentication.

- Enter your password to verify your identity and click Next.
- Click Turn Off.

- Use your password the next time you sign in to your Synology Account.
Sign in with 2FA
- Go to Synology Account.
- Enter your email and click Next.
- Enter your password and click Next.
- Depending on your second authentication method:
- To sign in with your phone, open the Synology Secure SignIn app and tap Approve or the number displayed to sign in.
- If you didn’t receive the notification, click Resend.

- To sign in with an OTP, open the Synology Secure SignIn app and enter the 6-digit code.
- If the sign-in failed, the code might have refreshed when you entered it. Please enter the new code.

- If you would like to skip the second step of 2FA, tick Skip the 2-Factor Authentication on this device. If you change your device and would like to remove the device from the trusted devices, see the Remove trusted devices section below.
- You are now signed in to your Synology Account.
Remove trusted devices
Remove a trusted device if you no longer plan to use that device to sign in to your Synology account or if you don’t remember which devices you added as trusted devices, remove the trusted devices to start over.
- In the 2-Factor Authentication section, click Action > Remove Trusted Devices.

- Enter your password to verify it’s you and click Next.
- Click OK to remove all access to your Synology Account from all devices.

Notes:
- Changing your password will sign you out of all browsers.
- If you have previously set up QuickConnect or Synology DDNS, sign back in to your Synology Account to continue using them. Some services that are connected to your Synology Account will stop when you changed your password.
- If you already created a password before, you will not see this option.
- If your mobile device is not around you or you lost it, you can still use your password to sign in to your account.
- You can also add more devices to receive the notification. Click Add in the "Sign in with your phone" section to add more devices.
