Add C2 Object Storage
You can add Synology C2 Object Storage to the ActiveProtect site.
Before you start
- Make sure to set up a bucket with Object Lock enabled and leave the default retention period unset. This allows ActiveProtect Manager to set the lock period based on its retention policy.
- Make sure the access key for the bucket has read and write permissions.
- Make sure the management server can connect to "https://s3.synologyc2.net" for initial authentication. After adding C2 Object Storage, make sure all backup servers within the site can connect to the bucket's endpoint.
- Run a speed test if you experience slow data transfer rates when transferring data to C2 Object Storage.
Add new buckets
To add buckets that have never been connected to any ActiveProtect site, follow these steps:
- Go to Infrastructure > Remote storage > Add.
- Select C2 Object Storage.
- Enter the access key ID and secret key for C2 Object Storage. Refer to Create an access key for details.
- If no certificates are set up, the default certificate will be used.
- Choose whether to enable client-side encryption. We recommend enabling this option.1
Add previously used buckets
To add buckets that have previously been connected to an ActiveProtect site, follow these steps:
- Go to Infrastructure > Remote storage > Add.
- Select C2 Object Storage.
- Enter the access key ID and secret key for C2 Object Storage. Refer to Create an access key for details.
- If no certificates are set up, the default certificate will be used.
- Enter the encryption key if the bucket has enabled Client-side encryption. If you lose the key, you can retrieve it from an ActiveProtect site that is currently connected to the bucket under Infrastructure > Remote Storage.
