Synology LiveCam (iOS)
Version 1.1
With Synology LiveCam, you can turn your mobile device into an IP camera and pair it with Surveillance Station. This not only allows you to view live streaming, recordings, and snapshots on both Surveillance Station and your mobile device, you can also download and store the files locally for saving and viewing.
Before You Start
Before streamimg videos with LiveCam, make sure you have DSM and Surveillance Station 8.2 or above installed on your Synology NAS. Please also ensure that you have acquired all the device licenses needed for Surveillance Station to connect to your devices.
Pairing and Unpairing
To pair LiveCam with Surveillance Station:
- Enter the following information on the pairing page:
- Address or QuickConnect ID of the Synology server: This can be either the internal or external IP address, DDNS hostname, or Synology QuickConnect ID. Make sure you have enabled QuickConnect at Control Panel > QuickConnect in DSM before pairing with QuickConnect ID.
Note: Video streaming is unavailable when the connection to Surveillance Station is made through QuickConnect relay service. - User account belonging to the administrators group or with the privilege to pair LiveCam to Surveillance Station.
- Address or QuickConnect ID of the Synology server: This can be either the internal or external IP address, DDNS hostname, or Synology QuickConnect ID. Make sure you have enabled QuickConnect at Control Panel > QuickConnect in DSM before pairing with QuickConnect ID.
- If you want to secure your connection, please do the following:
- Turn on HTTPS if you want your connection to be SSL/TLS-encrypted. Before doing so, make sure the HTTPS service is activated at Control Panel > Network > DSM Settings on your Synology server.
- Turn on Verify certificate to validate the SSL certificate installed on your Synology NAS. This verification works if the installed certificate is trusted (you will need to purchase from a third party issuer).
Troubleshooting:
If you fail to pair, please do the following:
- Check if Surveillance Station is using a customized port. For example, if the port number is 9920, you may need to add the number to the end of the IP address/DDNS hostname, as in “fun.syno.com:9920”.
To unpair LiveCam with Surveillance Station:
Go to then tap Unpair. You will be able to choose between keeping or deleting the recordings on Surveillance Station.
Navigating
Below is a general introduction to LiveCam:
- Under Camera, you can view camera feeds, start or end video streaming, and adjust camera settings.
- Under Recordings, you can access all the recordings stored on the paired Surveillance Station and your mobile device.
- Under Snapshots, you can access all the snapshots stored on the paired Surveillance Station.
- Under More, you can check pairing information, manage Settings, access Help Center, and Unpair your device.
Operating LiveCam
To start or end video streaming:
Go Camera then tap to start streaming videos. LiveCam will automatically stream the images from your mobile device to Surveillance Station.
Tap to stop.
Note:
- Once the video streaming begins, you will no longer be able to rotate between vertical or horizontal view. Please adjust your mobile device beforehand.
- Please note that video streaming will consume a significant amount of power from your mobile device.
To adjust camera settings:
Go to Camera then tap to open the Camera Settings page. Available settings are listed below:
- Camera Name: Name of your devices on Surveillance Station.
- Stream Settings
- Front Camera: Change the source of streaming to the front camera of your mobile device.
- Audio: Turn on/off audio recording on your mobile device.
- Resolution: Adjust the resolution. Available options vary according to your device.
- FPS: Adjust the frame rate. Available options may vary with different devices.
- Quality: Adjust video quality. You can choose Low, Middle, and High.
- Video Stabilization: Turn on/off Video Stabilization. This option is only available on supported devices.
- On-Screen Display: Turn on/off on-screen display.
- Preview: Preview how the texts will be displayed on the video.
- Format: Customize the display content, including date, time, and plain text.
- Position: Decide whether to place the texts on the top or bottom of the video.
- Event Detection
- Motion Detection: Once you enable Motion Detection, the icon
will appear on your screen when the camera detects motion and an event alert will be sent to the paired Surveillance Station. You can set Sensitivity and Threshold according to your preferences.
- Motion Detection: Once you enable Motion Detection, the icon
- Recordings on Surveillance Station
- Rotate By Days: If you enable Rotate By Days, Surveillance Station will automatically delete the recordings that have reached the maximum storage duration. You can set the parameter between 1 to 1,825 days.
- Rotate By Size: If you enable Rotate By Size, Surveillance Station will automatically delete the oldest recordings to make space for new ones when the maximum storage space is reached. You can set Space Limit (GB) from 1 GB to the available storage on Surveillance Station.
- Recording Storage: Set up the share folder according to your needs and preferences.
- Seamless Recording: By enabling this option, your recordings will be saved to your mobile device when the connection between LiveCam and the paired Surveillance Station is lost. The files will later be uploaded to Surveillance Station when the connection is restored. You can choose between Rotate By Days and Rotate By Size.
To use other camera functions:
- LED: Tap
to turn on your device’s LED light. You can also control the LED light through paired Surveillance Station and DS cam.
- Power Saving: Tap
to enter the power saving mode. Hold
to exit.
- Snapshots: Tap
to take a snapshot. All snapshots will be stored on the paired Surveillance Station.
- Two-Way Audio: When two-way audio is enabled on Surveillance Station,
will show on your screen, indicating that LiveCam is receiving audio from Surveillance Station.
To manage recording files:
Go to Recordings to see the recordings stored on both Surveillance Station and your mobile device.
To find a particular recording:
Tap to set filters and quickly find the recording you are looking for.
To delete a recording in batch mode:
Delete recordings in batch mode by tapping then selecting the files to remove.
To download a recording in batch mode:
Download recordings in batch mode by tapping then selecting the files to download.
To lock or unlock recordings in batch mode:
Lock or unlock recordings in batch mode by tapping then selecting the files you would like to lock or unlock.
To manage snapshots:
Go to Snapshots to view the snapshots stored on the paired Surveillance Station.
To find a particular snapshot:
Tap to set filters and quickly find the snapshot you are looking for.
To delete snapshots in batch mode:
Delete snapshots in batch mode by tapping then selecting the snapshots you would like to delete.
To download snapshots in batch mode:
Download snapshots in batch mode by tapping then selecting the snapshots you would like to download.
To lock or unlock snapshots in batch mode:
Lock or unlock snapshots in batch mode by tapping then selecting the snapshots you would like to lock or unlock.
Application Settings
To see your paired Synology NAS:
Go to More to check out which Synology NAS you are paired with and view account information.
To configure security settings:
Go to More > Settings to configure your passcode.
