Update

The page at CMS > Update includes options to perform software updates on managed servers, allowing you to quickly and efficiently keep your Synology NAS servers up-to-date and make sure each server is running the latest version of DSM and packages.

DSM Update

The DSM Update tab allows you view and update the version of DSM (DiskStation Manager) installed on managed servers. The following options are available:

  • Update: Updates the version of DSM on selected managed servers if a newer version is available.
  • Update all: Updates the version of DSM on all managed servers if a newer version is available.
  • Refresh: Fetches and displays the DSM update status of managed servers, letting you know whether or not a new version of DSM is available.
  • Update settings: Specify the type of updates that you wish to receive. When Newest DSM and all updates is selected, the system periodically checks for all updates, including the newest version of DSM. When Important updates only is selected, the system only notifies you when an important, security-related update for your current version of DSM is available and ready to install.

Package Update

The Package Update tab allows you view and update the packages that are installed on managed servers. The following options are available:

  • Refresh: Fetches and displays the package update status of managed servers, letting you know whether or not package updates are available.
  • Update: Downloads and installs the updated package on managed servers.
  • Update all: Downloads and installs all packages that are ready to be updated.

Note:

  • Make sure the CMS Host can connect to the Internet to obtain the latest DSM and package updates. In addition, the CMS Host needs at least one volume ready to store necessary installation files.
  • Package updates that require users to complete a setup wizard are not displayed and cannot be updated here. If a package update requires a setup wizard, please go to Package Center on the managed server to update the package manually.
  • To update a package that is dependent on another package, you need to update the other package first, and then update the dependent package.
  • If a package update is dependent on another package that cannot be updated via CMS, the update will not succeed.
