How do I back up Docker containers?

How do I back up Docker containers?

Purpose

You can export Docker containers and save the files as backups. With the exported files, you can set up containers on a different Synology NAS. This article provides instructions for exporting containers.

Resolution

  1. Go to Container Manager > Container (DSM 7.2 and above) or Docker > Container (DSM 7.1 and earlier) and select a container.
  2. Click Action > Export (DSM 7.2 and above) or Settings > Export (DSM 7.1 and earlier). Decide if you want to export container settings only or both of its settings and content.1
  3. Choose the destination for the exported file.
  4. Click Export.

Notes:

  1. If you have mapped the container's volume to folders or files on your Synology NAS, use Hyper Backup to create a backup task for these folders and files. Learn more about Hyper Backup tasks on DSM 7.x or DSM 6.x.
