Navigate Desktop
Synology Unified Controller is equipped with a web-based operating system, DSM UC, which allows you to quickly and easily accomplish the following:
- Modify and personalize system settings
- Create RAID volumes and manage other types of storage spaces
- ...And much more!
Signing into DSM UC
To sign into DSM UC:
- Make sure your computer and Synology Unified Controller are connected to the same local network.
- Open a browser on your computer and enter one of the following in the address bar:
- find.synology.com (Only if your computer and Synology Unified Controller are connected to the Internet)
- The server name of your Synology Unified Controller followed by :5000, for example synologyuc:5000 (The specific name depends on your settings made during initial setup)
- The IP address of your Synology Unified Controller followed by :5000, for example 192.168.48.14:5000 (The IP address depends on the settings made during initial setup)
- Enter your username and password and click Sign in.
Note:
The name, IP address, and admin password for your Synology Unified Controller should have been set up during initial installation. If you have trouble finding this information, try installing Synology Assistant or go to find.synology.com.
DSM UC Desktop
After signing in, you'll see the DSM UC desktop. From here, you can start getting things done, like manage settings or view notifications.
Taskbar
The taskbar is located at the top of the screen and includes the following items:

- Show Desktop: Minimize all open application windows.
- Main Menu: View and open applications on your Synology Unified Controller. You can also click and drag to create desktop shortcuts.
- Open applications: Displays currently open applications. You can right-click and pin applications to the taskbar for faster access in the future.
- Notifications: Displays notifications, such as errors, status updates, and application installation notifications.
- Options: Shutdown, restart, logout, or modify personal account options.
- Search: Quickly find specific applications or DSM UC Help articles here.
Main Menu
You'll find a list of applications installed on your Synology Unified Controller here.
To create desktop shortcuts:
- Open Main Menu.
- Click and drag an application to the desktop.
