How do I generate a Google Safe Browsing API key?

Purpose

Google Safe Browsing provides a threat list that identifies unsafe web resources. An API key is required to activate this service on your Synology Router.

This tutorial guides you on how to generate a API key for Google Safe Browsing and activate the service within Safe Access.

Resolution

  1. Go to Google Developers Console.
  2. Sign in with your Google account.
  3. Go to Dashboard and click Select a project.
  4. Click NEW PROJECT.
  5. Enter a name in the Project name field, and click CREATE.
  6. Click Library on the menu panel.
  7. Enter Safe Browsing in the search bar.
  8. Click Safe Browsing API as shown on the list of search results.
  9. Click ENABLE.
  10. Go to Menu > APIs & Services > Credentials.
  11. Go to Credentials, and selectAPI key from the CREATE CREDENTIALS drop-down menu.
  12. Click the copy icon to copy your Google Safe Browsing API key.
  13. Go to SRM Safe Access > Security > Network Protection.
  14. Tick the Enable Google Safe Browsing checkbox, and paste the provided API key to the API key field.
  15. Click Apply. Network connections through Synology Router are now protected by Google Safe Browsing.
