How can I share files using File Station?
How can I share files using File Station?
Purpose
You can share files with other DSM users as well as non-DSM users in File Station by setting up file sharing via QuickConnect or a DDNS connection.
Resolution
Create a file sharing link via QuickConnect
QuickConnect allows you to connect to your NAS over the internet via a customizable address, such as QuickConnect.to/example
(QuickConnect.cn/example
if in China), without needing to set up port forwarding rules.
-
Do the following according to your DSM version:
- DSM 7.0 and above: Go to Control Panel > External Access > QuickConnect.
- DSM 6.2 and below: Go to Control Panel > QuickConnect.
- Select the Enable QuickConnect checkbox.
-
Do the following according to your DSM version:
- DSM 7.0 and above: Click Sign in on the pop up window to sign in to or create a Synology Account.
- DSM 6.2 and below: Click Sign in to or sign up for a Synology Account to sign in to or create a Synology account.
- Specify a new QuickConnect ID in the QuickConnect ID field, and click Apply.
- Your QuickConnect link information will appear in the shaded box below. You can use the provided link to access your Synology NAS.1
- In Advanced Settings > Permission, make sure that File Sharing is enabled.
- Open File Station, right-click on the file or folder that you want to share, and select Share. A shareable link will be provided in the pop-up window.2
Create a file request link via QuickConnect
- If your device is within a restricted network environment and you are unable to setup port forwarding for direct connection, refer to steps 1 to 5 in the Create a file sharing link via QuickConnect section to set up QuickConnect for your Synology NAS.
- In Control Panel > External Access > DDNS, make sure that DDNS services are not enabled and you did not configure settings in Advanced, as doing so will affect the URL of your file request links.
- Open File Station, right-click on the folder to which you want others to upload files, and select Create file request. A link for requesting files will be provided in the pop-up window.3
Create a file sharing link via DDNS
DDNS allows direct connection to Synology NAS without QuickConnect server, enabling access with a custom domain easier to remember and share with others.
- To directly connect to Synology NAS externally, you need to set up port forwarding rules and apply for DDNS.
- If you want to use a fixed URL for the file sharing link, go to Control Panel > External Access > Advanced, and enter the full name of your DDNS and customized DSM ports.5 6
- Open File Station, right-click on the file or folder that you want to share, and select Share. A shareable link will be provided in the pop-up window.2
Create a file request link via DDNS
You can create and send file request links that allow other users to upload files without DSM accounts. Follow the steps below to learn how to create and send file request links via DDNS.
- We recommend using a fixed URL for file request links. To set up a fixed URL, refer to steps 1 and 2 in the Create a file sharing link via DDNS section to set up port forwarding rules and DDNS for your Synology NAS.
- Open File Station, right-click on the folder to which you want others to upload files, and select Create file request. A link for requesting files will be provided in the pop-up window.3
