Overview

The Overview page displays basic information regarding the system and provides the option to initiate manual switchover.

System Status

This section displays the overall system status and offers solutions if any system abnormalities are detected:

Status Description
Healthy The system status is healthy. There are currently no known issues affecting service continuity.
Processing The system is processing certain operations, such as volume repair or other actions. The switchover service is temporarily suspended.
Updating The system or the package is being updated. The switchover service is temporarily suspended.
Warning The system has detected errors, but services are still available. The switchover service is temporarily suspended and the errors must be addressed as soon as possible.
Critical The system has detected one or more critical errors, and services may no longer be available. All errors must be addressed as soon as possible.

Abnormal Status

Here are some common abnormal statuses indicating errors in the system. If more than one error is detected, only the one that most requires your attention will be displayed and should be resolved as soon as possible.

Warning/Error Description Suggested Solution
Monitored service error An error occurred on one or more monitored services. The available monitored services include SMB, AFP, FTP, NFS and iSCSI LUN. Sometimes the errors are temporary and can be resolved by restarting the system. If the problem persists, please contact Synology Technical Support.
Storage space degraded A storage space (e.g. storage pool, volume, iSCSI LUN and SSD read-write cache) on the active or passive server is degraded. Go to Storage Manager for more information.
Storage space crashed A storage space (e.g. storage pool, volume, iSCSI LUN and SSD read-write cache) on the active or passive server crashed. Go to Storage Manager for more information.
Unable to detect passive server This error might occur because the passive server is offline or there is abnormal controller communication. Make sure the passive server is properly inserted and powered on. If the problem persists, please contact Synology Technical Support.
No passive server in the system This status will be displayed if the passive server is removed from the system. In this case, the auto-failover function will be unavailable. Make sure the passive server is properly inserted and powered on. If the problem persists, please contact Synology Technical Support.

System Information

This section provides a simulated illustration to show the basic information of the system, including server name, the two controllers, as well as their respective role in the system (active/passive).

Switchover

You can manually move the provision of services to the passive server via a "switchover." To manually initiate a switchover, simply click the Switchover button in the Overview page.

Note:

When a switchover is initiated, there will be a short period where both servers are unable to provide services while roles are being exchanged. The time to complete a switchover varies depending on several factors, such as:

  • the number and size of volumes or ISCSI LUNS
  • the number and size of shared folders
  • the number and total load of services

Host Utilization

You can monitor the important resource usage of the two controllers in this section. You can refer to the following usage information:

  1. CPU Utilization: This indicates the amount of the processor's capacity that is currently in use by the system. It is recommended to have the CPU utilization lower than 80% as sufficient resource needs to be reserved for system-related monitoring.
  2. CPU Load Average: This indicates the sum of the number of processes that are currently running plus the number that are waiting to run within one, five, and fifteen minutes.
  3. Memory: This indicates how much memory has been occupied. It is recommended to always reserve 20% of the memory for system-related monitoring.
  4. Drive Activity: This indicates if the drives are running data read/write activities.

Recent Important Events

The five most recent logged activities will be listed in this section to help you stay informed and up-to-date. The information includes the date and time, the user, and a detail description of each recorded event.
