How do I use Gmail SMTP server to send emails for ActiveProtect Manager?
Purpose
This article will guide you through how to use Gmail as the service provider to send email notifications in ActiveProtect Manager (APM).
Resolution
Make sure you have enabled 2-Step Verification and App Passwords for your Google account1 before proceeding with the following steps:
- Go to System Settings > Notifications > Email Settings.
- Tick the checkbox of Enable email notifications.
- Click the pencil icon next to Sender email and fill out the following information:
- Service provider: Select Custom SMTP server.
- SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
- SMTP port: 587
- Authentication required: Tick the checkbox.
- Username: Enter your Gmail address.
- Password: Enter your 16-character app password configured in your Google account.
- Secure connections (SSL/TLS) required: Tick the checkbox.
- Sender name: Enter a name as you like. This will appear on email notifications.
- Sender email: Enter your Gmail address. Note that if the Sender email differs from the Username above, your emails may be marked as spam.
- Save the settings and wait for APM to connect to your Google account.
- Fill in the fields under the Recipients section.
- Click Send Test Emails to see if the settings are correct.
Notes:
- Google's security policy: Starting May 30, 2022, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. To bypass this limitation, enable 2-Step Verification and App Password.
