Limitations
- For external devices, APM only supports backing up NTFS-formatted external hard drives and SSDs. Floppy drives, thumb drives, flash card readers, and other external devices are not supported.
- Personal computers with 4Kn disks are not supported.
- Virtual hard disks (VHD) on Windows are not supported. To back up VHDs, back up the entire device or volume where the VHD files are located.

- System preparations:
- For Intel Core
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and select ActiveProtect agent from the list of applications.
- Change the system security level to Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers.
- For Apple silicon
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and select ActiveProtect agent from the list of applications.
- Change the system security level to Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers.
- Set up a secure token.
- For Intel Core
Limitations
- For external devices, APM only supports backing up APFS-formatted external hard drives and SSDs. Floppy drives, thumb drives, flash card readers, and other external devices are not supported. To back up external hard drives and SSDs, Full Disk Access must be enabled.
- The ActiveProtect agent can't be installed on devices that uses external or network volumes for startup. Make sure the protected devices use a local volume for startup.
- ActiveProtect agent can't back up encrypted volumes or APFS volumes with block sizes larger than 4K.
