How do I enable Google Maps service in Surveillance Station?
Purpose
Surveillance Station can be used with Google Maps service, allowing you to combine real-world geographic location information with your surveillance system. This article will explain how to apply for a Google Maps API key as well as how to enable Google Maps service in Surveillance Station.
Resolution
A Google Maps API key is required to access Google Maps in Surveillance Station. Google Maps service currently has a free usage quota of US$200 per month. It can load maps and search for locations over 20,000 times, and in general, actions such as panning, zooming, or map layer switching will not be included in the charge calculation. This is sufficient to meet the application requirements of most monitoring scenarios.
Apply for a Google Maps API key
- Go to Google Maps Platform and click on Get started.
- Sign in with your Google account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create a billing account.
- Enable Google Maps Platform and copy your API key.
- You can restrict API keys for security purposes. Surveillance Station requires the following APIs: Maps JavaScript API, Places API, and Geocoding API.
Enable Google Maps service in Surveillance Station
- Sign in to Surveillance Station and open the Maps application.
- Click Map Service >

- Open the Configure Map Service window and tick Enable map service.
- Enter a Map Name.
- Under Map Service Provider, select Google Maps.
- Enter your Google Maps API key; if the key is correct you will see a green checkmark.
- Select a map layer to use.
- Save your settings. Google Maps service will be ready for use immediately.
