How do I find my Synology NAS via Web Assistant or Synology Assistant?

This article guides you through finding your Synology NAS via Web Assistant and Synology Assistant as well as provides options to troubleshoot related issues.
Resolution
How to search for your Synology NAS
You may find your Synology NAS via either of the following tools:
- Web Assistant: Enter find.synology.com or synologynas:5000 (synologynas.local:5000 for Mac computers) in the address bar of your web browser.
- Synology Assistant: Open Synology Assistant desktop utility. If Synology Assistant is not installed yet, go to Download Center > Desktop Utilities to download and install it on your computer first.
If you still cannot find your Synology NAS, please proceed to the following methods to resolve the problem.
Unable to locate Synology NAS via Web Assistant
Please try each of the following methods before searching for your Synology NAS via Web Assistant again:
- Make sure your Synology NAS and computer are properly connected to the Internet.1
- Make sure your Synology NAS and computer are located on the same local area network and subnet.
- Use a different browser (e.g., Chrome or Firefox).
- If DSM is still accessible, go to DSM > Control Panel > Info Center > Device Analytics > Share Network Location and tick the Allow this DiskStation to be displayed in Web Assistant (find.synology.com) checkbox.
- If you have changed your server name while setting up your Synology NAS, you may have trouble locating your Synology NAS. If DSM is still accessible, go to DSM > Control Panel > Network > General to change the Server Name to SynologyNAS and try again.
- If the above methods do not work, try searching for your Synology NAS with Synology Assistant.
Unable to locate Synology NAS via Synology Assistant
Please try each of the following methods before searching for your Synology NAS via Synology Assistant again:
- Make sure your Synology NAS and computer are located on the same local area network and subnet.
- Adjust your firewall settings to allow Synology Assistant through your DSM and Windows firewalls.
- Temporarily disable or remove the antivirus software on your computer.
- Use other Ethernet cables to connect your Synology NAS to check for defective cables.
- If your Synology NAS has more than one network port, connect the Ethernet cable to a different port to check for defective ports.
- Run Synology Assistant on another computer and search for your Synology NAS.
- If you are using Synology Assistant 7.0-50044 or later and the Synology NAS you're trying to locate is running DSM 6.2.3 and earlier or DSM UC 3.0.1 and earlier, click the gear icon in Synology Assistant and tick to enable Allow compatibility with devices that do not support password encryption.2
- Press the RESET button on the back of your Synology NAS for four seconds (you will hear a beep sound) to reset the Synology NAS settings.3 To learn more about how to reset your Synology NAS, refer to this article (for DSM 6.2.3 and earlier) or this article (for DSM 6.2.4 and above).4
- After your Synology NAS has been reset, turn off the WiFi connection on your computer, and connect your Synology NAS directly to your computer using an Ethernet cable without going through a network switch or router. Set your computer's wired LAN interface to DHCP and search for your Synology NAS using Synology Assistant again.
If Synology Assistant is still unable to locate your Synology NAS after trying the methods above:
- Please shut down your Synology NAS, remove the drives, restart your Synology NAS, and then try searching for the device again.
- It may be due to hardware failure when your Synology NAS cannot be found even without any installed drives. Please contact your local reseller for RMA service if your Synology NAS is still in the warranty period.
- If Synology Assistant can find your Synology NAS without any installed drives but cannot find it after installing all the drives using the same computer, please contact Synology Technical Support for further assistance.
Notes:
- If all of your Synology NAS devices do not have Internet access, please use Synology Assistant to search for your NAS.

- If your Synology NAS does not beep when you press and hold the RESET button, this may be due to hardware failure. Please contact your local reseller for RMA service if your Synology NAS is still in the warranty period.
- After resetting your Synology NAS, the LAN IP address may change and the admin password is reset.
